Mitchell Owen Joins Punjab Kings from PSL

In the 59th match of IPL 2025, a player took the field for Punjab Kings who had previously been part of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. This player made the decision to leave the PSL mid-season to join the Punjab team. The reason for this transition was the injury of Glenn Maxwell, a key all-rounder for Punjab Kings, who had to withdraw from IPL 2025. Consequently, this player entered the IPL as a replacement. However, his debut match did not go as planned, as he faced only two deliveries.

Owen's Transition from PSL to IPL

The Punjab Kings brought in Australian uncapped all-rounder Mitchell Owen to fill the gap left by Glenn Maxwell. Owen was previously playing for Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL. Following recent border tensions between India and Pakistan, he opted not to return to Pakistan and instead traveled to India to participate in the IPL. Initially, Owen was expected to be available for the playoff matches with Punjab.

Disappointing IPL Debut Against Rajasthan Royals

Mitchell Owen had the opportunity to make his IPL debut against Rajasthan Royals. Unfortunately, he could only face two balls before losing his wicket without scoring. Batting at number three, he was dismissed by a brilliant delivery from Quena Mufaka, which was caught by Sanju Samson. In the PSL 2025, Owen played a total of eight matches for Peshawar Zalmi, scoring only 102 runs.

Outstanding Performance in Big Bash League 2025

Earlier this year, Mitchell Owen made a significant impact in the Big Bash League in Australia. He played 11 matches throughout the season, achieving an impressive average of 45 and a strike rate of 203, accumulating the highest total of 452 runs. In the final, he showcased his skills by scoring 108 runs off just 42 balls at a strike rate of 257, leading his team, Hobart Hurricanes, to victory with 10 sixes and 5 fours.
